Rachid El Mounacifi and Mattias Walving-Lundberg in conversation.

Walving-Lundberg Business Court (WLBC) was founded in 2025 by lawyer and entrepreneur Mattias Walving-Lundberg. Mattias graduated in law in 1997 and has since been frustrated with the slow-grinding mills of the judicial system as well as existing arbitration procedures. Mattias explains:

“It is a major problem that disputes take so long to resolve in court. Often it takes a year, with appeals perhaps twice as long. And it is expensive! In a relatively simple case, the parties may have to pay their counsel hundreds of thousands of kronor. In the more complex cases, we are talking millions. This is not good. The system is not built for the parties, and definitely not for the weaker parties.

Then we have arbitration proceedings, which can cost almost anything for a simple judgment. Retired judges from the Supreme Court and Courts of Appeal may charge many millions for their work. On top of that come the counsel’s fees. It is not a good system for ordinary citizens and small business owners.

I saw WLBC as a good solution to this! A judgment within 30 days and at a low cost! However, I have many Muslim principals/clients, so I discussed the idea with some of them regarding whether WLBC would also be of interest if it adjudicated according to Sharia law – and the response was very positive! I contacted my friend Dr. Rachid El Mounacif and I asked him if he would be willing to take responsibility, on my behalf, for developing WLBC’s Sharia division, and he accepted. I greatly look forward to this collaboration.”
